Step 5: Sewing Your Bag Together!

The last step in making the bag is to give it some dimensionality by sewing the corners to create a boxed bottom. To do this, fold your bag with the side seams matched like this: play around with the corners until they are creating two 90 degree angle points that match up at the bottom.

The next step is to fold your material in half with the pattern facing inwards. Your clasp will join the two ends of the bag together temporarily. Before sewing sides sew along each side of the material to join the two edges of your bag together. Sew 1/2 inch (approximately 1 cm) in from the edge of your material. As always when you're sewing it's good practice to do a few backstitches at the beginning and end to prevent unravelling.

You can use the same fabric and attach the same fusible facing to the back of it. Instead of a zipper, you can used a fabric glue and turn what would be the top edges of your pouch/bag in a little bit and glue them down. 30 Minute Handled Gift Bag
