Christmas gift bags: paper gift bags come in a variety of finishes — glossy, matte, or printed with seasonal patterns and characters. Braided cord handles close off the top, if you like, or make the bags ready for toting. Gift bags are practical, affordable, and even reusable — each bag can be "regifted" any number of times simply by replacing the gift tag. Specialty christmas gift bags can depict santa's jacket and belt, a wrapped christmas present, and other holiday themes.
I’m delighted to tell you that i am now contributing craft projects to inspirational blog decor8 (if you follow me on instagram or facebook this will be old news!). For the past couple of years, i've cut down on my use of christmas paper, by sewing re-usable fabric gift bags. Today i'll show you how i make some of those bags….
To make your own gift bag, you will need a piece of 7″x34″ fabric that will be folded in half lengthwise to measure 7″x17″. I used a set of pretty hemp fabric for mine and you can choose something that matches your style. I like a thicker fabric for these bags, so you can also look at some interior fabrics for inspiration.
Hi, i made these drawstring bags as a going-away gift for a work colleague, k. , who left san francisco to move back to washington, dc for a new job. I wanted to make something that would remind her of the bay area – and then i could also put together this tutorial on how to make a drawstring bag. The weekend before her last day in the office, i went to britex fabrics to see if they had any san francisco-themed fabric. Lo and behold! they had this great quilt-weight fabric with bay area icons, including the britex fabrics sign!.
Happy tool time tuesday! this is itthe last tuesday before christmas, so i thought i would show you how to make a super quick fabric gift bag. I knowsewing, but even if you don't sew very often, you can make these. All they have are 2 straight seams. Easy! what's the "tool" of the day? these cutiesthey are called fat quarters in the quilt world, but some fabric stores have their own name for them. A fat quarter is a yard of fabric that is opened up to it's full width, so it would be 36 inches by usually 44 inches. Then that piece of fabric is cut into quarters. Each piece is then 18 inches by 22 inches. Click here for the explanation i did a while back. If you by a quarter of a yard right off the bolt, that measurement would be 9 inches by 44 inches. Buying a fat quarter, it's still a quarter of a yard, but fatter!.
You’ll need fabric and ribbons. How large you make your drawstring bag is up to you, and the size of your gift. The drawstring bag i’ll share in this tutorial is a small bag that i made for a friends baby gift, the finished bag measures 11″ x 9″. Cut your fabric into either two rectangles, or one very long long rectangle that you’ll fold in half. For the bag i’m showing you, i cut a piece of fabric that was 24″ x 10″ – i could also have cut two rectangles that were 24 1/4″ x 10″ with the same effect. I’m going to assume you’re using two rectangles for the rest of this tutorial.
You can also use other fabric to make a diy gift bag that is larger or if you simply want different fabric. Grab your fabric of choice, decide on the size you want, and cut your fabric to size leaving enough room for a hem. ¼ inch to ½ inch will be good.
