Part of the challenge, however, was that this corner was often subject to relocation. This meant that i had to organize my supplies with compact and mobile methods. It also meant that i was not going to be setting up any picture perfect sewing room. No pastel shelves in an office loft, with light beaming in slanted windows for me. At least not in the last 30 years.

Last year when i was organizing my kitchen, i discovered that galvanized sheet metal * makes an inexpensive surface for magnets (you can see my diy magnetic spice rack here ).

One diy solution that i stumbled upon in my research was a re-purposed fence that a clever seamstress installed in her sewing room. She simply lined up all of her threads on all of the fence planks. It looked really cool and rustic and totally served its purpose. And, being that she made her thread storage system from remnants around the house, her cost was next to nothing.
